What the app is
Southbound is an iOS application that uses location services to track the number of days you spend in the state of Florida. It is designed to help document physical presence for tax residency purposes.
Not tax or legal advice
Southbound is a tracking and documentation tool. The app does not provide tax advice, legal advice, or professional guidance of any kind. Tax residency rules vary by state and are subject to change. Consult a qualified tax professional or attorney for advice specific to your situation.
Southbound makes no guarantee that its reports will satisfy the requirements of any tax authority, court, or government agency. The app is intended to supplement, not replace, professional tax documentation.
Accuracy
Southbound relies on iOS location services, which have inherent limitations. GPS accuracy varies based on device, environment, and signal conditions. Significant location changes may not capture every border crossing instantly. Manual overrides are available to correct any inaccuracies.
We strive for accuracy but do not guarantee that location determinations will be 100% correct at all times.
Early access
During early access, Southbound is provided free of charge via Apple TestFlight. Early-access software may contain bugs, inaccuracies, or incomplete features. By participating you acknowledge:
- The app may not function as expected at all times.
- Data may be lost due to bugs or updates — export regularly.
- Features may change or be removed without notice.
- TestFlight builds expire after 90 days.
Subscription & pricing
After early access, Southbound will be available as a paid subscription at $249/year, billed annually through the Apple App Store. Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period. Manage or cancel in your Apple ID settings.
Your data
All data generated by Southbound is stored locally on your device and backed up to your personal iCloud account via Apple's CloudKit. You own your data. We do not have access to it, cannot recover it from our end, and are not responsible for its loss.
We recommend using the export feature regularly to maintain an independent backup of your records. Your iCloud data is managed through your Apple ID settings.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the app to create fraudulent tax documentation.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the app.
- Use the app for any unlawful purpose.
- Attempt to interfere with the app's location detection.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Southbound and its creators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages — including loss of data, tax penalties, fines, or adverse tax determinations arising from use of the app.
The app is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
Termination
You may stop using the app at any time by uninstalling it. We reserve the right to terminate or suspend access to the app at our discretion, particularly in cases of terms violations.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, without regard to conflict-of-law provisions.
